Another proof that the city of Macon will never be nothing
I keep looking for signs that Macon Georgia will someday be a city to be proud of. But instead its future seems to be headed down the stinking drain. Because that's where its people is taking it. Macon Georgia has so much potential and so much to offer. but the movers and shakers of the city of Macon can care less. They have no love or care for this city. A great example of that is the Tremont Temple Church building, located in the heart downtown. Instead of embracing the rich history of this building and adding it to the value of the city, they want to demolish it and erect a freaking Dunkin Donuts. Don't get me wrong, I love Dunkin Donuts and would love to have one in downtown, so I wouldn't have to go all the way up town. But couldn't they find another location. As if downtown is lacking empty spot. There are so many areas they could have erected a Dunkin Donuts shop.
What I'm saying is, why won't Macon Georgia take lessons from the city of Savannah. I visited Savannah twice this year. and each time I visited, I visited on a Monday and a Tuesday. I was so surprised the amount of visitors flocking the historic area. There were tourists everywhere, walking around taking pictures, eating, drinking, shopping and etc. This means, restaurants, retail stores, and hotels are profiting from all these tourists. Did I mentioned I visited on Monday and Tuesday
They have trolleys, bicycle tricycle taxis, and horse thingy. The city of Savannah, offers free bus ride in the historic downtown and free historical trolley tour rides. They also offer a one day bus pass that cost $3, similar to Lousiana. Savannah have these parks they call squares, they have these historical buildings, great architectural buildings. all of which the city Macon have. But the city of Macon are willing to trade them for a Dunkin Donut shop. lol!
If you ask me, compare to Savannah, Macon has so much more to offer when it comes to architectural buildings. Yes, true Savannah have River Market and Tybee Island. But Macon, have a rich history and great architectural buildings. and only one hour away from Atlanta. and we have a river, which is another whole subject.
So why the heck Macon city officials don't see this? Because they are bunch of religious, self righteous, racists old hags and no vision of the future. Some of these freaking city councils have served many terms and refuse to let go of their seats, pass the button, torch or whatever. Thus no fresh imaginations and young innovative leader that would take this city to what its capable of.

Macon's attempt of creating a square? That's not a square, is a corner of a square!
How much more are we going to loose.
We lost Macon Mall and Georgia Music Hall of Fame and god knows what else. Because I haven't been keeping up with the city lately.
The parks are uncared for. Our annual events are diminishing. There use to a major event in each season.
Cherry Festival, Juneteenth, Ocmulgee Mounds, I think that's it.
what happend to Jazz Festival which included an arts and crafts, the James Brown Festival, and whatever.
I'm getting sleepy, so the heck with this post.

I've lived here for 10 years myself and I'm afraid you're right. I see some good things starting to happen but I think they will ultimately fizzle out. A city smack in the middle of the state should NOT be in this condition.
