Kathy offers pottery classes and cups of inspiration almost every day. She teaches hand-building as well as wheel techniques in a laid-back, one-on-one atmosphere perfect for makers who crave creativity more than crowd . It’s not a gallery you walk into during business hours—it’s a vibrant creative space you experience by appointment, where she’s usually there, working at the wheel even as you explore her pieces .

Took my ebike for a ride yesterday at the Amerson Park.  We frequent this park often.  I like to tour the park using or ebikes.  The park is pretty big. And you can get lost if you’re not familiar with it.  Here are some quick facts about the park:

Amerson River Park in Macon, Georgia, encompasses 180 acres of pristine forests, meadows, and wetlands encircled by a river oxbow. The park features several high bluffs that offer scenic views of the Ocmulgee River and its banks. 

Enjoy over seven miles of paved trails suitable for walking, biking, or running. The park also offers a state-of-the-art, handicap-accessible playground, ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy the facilities. For water enthusiasts, there's a canoe launch at the park's northern end, providing access to the Ocmulgee River. Additionally, a two-mile tubing float is available, starting from the Jay Hall Memorial Canoe Launch and ending at the Bragg Jam Canoe and Tube Takeout. 

The park is equipped with multiple pavilions and open grassy areas, making it ideal for picnics and gatherings. Amerson River Park is part of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail network and serves as the starting point for the Ocmulgee River Water Trail, a 200-mile stretch that concludes at the confluence of the Oconee River, forming the Altamaha River. 

Operating hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week. Admission is free. For those interested in hosting events, pavilions are available for rent through the Macon-Bibb County Parks and Beautification Department.

There was a quiet magic to Creative Yarns. Tucked away in a charming house on Speer Avenue, it didn’t feel like a store—it felt like stepping into someone’s beloved craft room, with every skein whispering possibility. For a decade, Creative Yarns wasn’t just where I went for supplies; it’s where I went to breathe. The yarn was arranged not just by type, but with a sense of personality—there was a sock yarn room (yes, an entire room!), and even a “green room” with eco-friendly fibers that felt just as thoughtful as they were soft.

The real heart of the place, though, was the people. You could come in with half a pattern, the wrong hook, and zero confidence, and someone—usually with needles in hand—would set you straight with a smile. It was the kind of shop where you lingered a little longer, where strangers became stitching friends, and where no one ever judged you for buying more yarn than you planned.

When Creative Yarns closed its doors around 2014, it felt like more than just losing a local business—it felt like losing a little part of Macon’s creative heartbeat. I still have yarn I bought there, tucked into bins and baskets like souvenirs from a road I once traveled. Every so often, I’ll pull one out, start a project, and smile—because some places don’t need to be open to still feel alive.
